This year, a great jubilee is being celebrated around the world: 80 years of victory over fascism. On this occasion, Dom omladine Beograd organizes a concert by Dr. Nelet Karajlić, who with his band will perform a program made up of songs from the repertoire of No Smoking and his solo career. Through songs and video illustrations, this evening will take us chronologically through the story of what happened to us in the meantime, with the basic message: rock culture is part of the anti-fascist struggle!
A limited amount of tickets at a special promotional price of RSD 1,500 can be purchased at the DOB Box Office, through the eFinity network and online. The presale price of tickets will be RSD 1,800.
As a member of the generation that grew up listening to the stories of living actors of the anti-fascist struggle and watching war films and TV series, Yugoslav, Russian and American, Dr. Nele Karajlić absorbed this teaching and throughout his career stood on the side of those who fought against fascism, in any form. That is why he is a real artistic personality, to remind the audience of the importance of this historical date from the stage in an original way.
Ahead of the concert on May 9 in the Youth Center of Belgrade, Dr. Nele Karajlić says:
"History has no end! Whoever tried to stop it, met with ruin. This also happened with the greatest evil in the history of mankind, the Third Reich. Exactly 80 years ago, with the entry of Soviet troops into the Reichstag, Nazism met with ruin. On Friday, May 9, in the hall of the American Dom omladine Belgrade, we will not only mark the eightieth anniversary of the fall of fascism, but with a multimedia program by doctor Nelet Karajlić, we will go through the songs of all these 80 years No smoking".
Dr. Nele Karajlić is one of the most famous rock personalities from this area. He entered the history of Yugoslav rock and roll through the Sarajevo group Zabranjeno fušenje, during the eighties of the 20th century. Their first two albums - "Das ist Walter" (1984) and "Dok čekaš sabah sa shaitan" (1985) - are exceptional works, whose authenticity and emotional charge still delights the audience today. Passionately played and provocative in content, they created a myth about a street gang from a neighborhood of a big city here, which grows up in a collision with a harsh and paradoxical reality. It was a myth that came to life and with which many people identified, and Banranjeno pušenje very quickly went from being a locally known band to a kind of national phenomenon, making successful tours all over the SFRY. At that time, he was additionally reinforced by the satirical TV show "Top List of Surrealists", among the authors of which Dr. Karajliić stood out, delighting the audience with his visionary anarchic humor and merciless criticism of our natures. At the root of both projects was the "new primitivism" movement, the founder of which was Dr. Karajlić, which ironically defined itself according to the "old primitivism" that they often saw everywhere in the society around them.
Several decades later, Dr. Nele Karajlić is a well-known star, a part of the general culture here. In a collision with a harsh and paradoxical reality, he moved from Sarajevo to Belgrade, toured the world with the band No Smoking Orchestra, became a published writer and TV personality. But one of Nelet's great stories has not yet been told: a unique rock and roll evening on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism, which awaits you on May 9 at the Belgrade Youth Center.
